The module is designed to introduce students to the process of researching a topic and reporting on your research. The finished dissertation will reflect how well students understand the research process as well as their presentation of your particular topic. The module is designed to take students through all aspects of the ‘project cycle’ of research from acquaintance with traditions of research and debate to the formulation of and justification for a research question of their choosing, the choice of a strategy for answering a question, the choice of particular data collection and analysis techniques, through to evaluation of findings, writing up. The twelve sessions devoted to preparation for writing the dissertation are essential to students’ success in the whole process of planning, carrying out and reporting on your research.
