Convenor: Amy O’Brien
The aim of this module is to develop students’ work-related knowledge, skills and capabilities via a pre-approved and monitored internship placement within a STEM education-related host organisation in the UK. The module offers students the opportunity to develop a grounded understanding of educational practices in STEM-related professional environments, the nature of organisational structures, and the types of activity and programmes developed in such settings. The internship will enable students to gain experience of the sector and related policy through work-based and reflective learning. Observation of and participation in the field of practice will provide students with a deep understanding of the knowledge, skills and capabilities pertinent to future career development in educational roles within STEM-related organisations.
At the end of the process students will have:
Gained rich experience of the practice and organisation of education in a STEM-related professional environment;
Worked closely with STEM education professionals, learning at first-hand the key skills and competencies needed for employment in the sector;
Reflected deeply on the policies and any underlying educational theory shaping practice in the organization; and,
Applied theoretical and academic learning from the MA STEM education programme in a professional context.
